Spiritual Growth: A Modern Day Challenge
To experience spiritual growth in a world obsessed by power, fame, money, and material goods is a phenomenal undertaking. Modern day convenience and the instant gratification society we live in gives us a tendency to be lazy and take for granted all the spoils that life has to offer. Just a few generations ago if you wanted bread, you or a family member had to make bread so there was more appreciation for such things.
Today with the advancements in technology we have everything we need at our fingertips. As a result, we tend to take things for granted and perceptions of self-worth have become muddled. We have lost touch with our spirituality and it’s harder to see that things do exist in this life that are bigger then ourselves. We need to find a balance between the material and the spiritual facets of our lives?
Spiritual Growth: A Look Inward.
Introspection is a detailed mental examination of your own feelings, thoughts and motives. From time to time you must examine your experiences and the decisions you tend to make. For instance; the relationships you choose to have and your actions toward fellow human beings provide useful insights on your life goals. It is better to have good characteristics that stand out naturally while you try to rid yourself of bad ones.
Moreover, introspection helps you act and not just react. You’ll also find that you conduct yourself better under any circumstance. Introspection, like any skill, can be learned; it just takes courage and willingness to see the truth about yourself. For proper introspection be objective and forgive yourself for mistakes you have made so you can focus on areas of self-improvement.
Spiritual Growth: Develop Your Full Potential
Religion and science view spiritual matters differently. Religious views humans as spiritual beings that live on Earth temporarily, whereas science views the spirit as a single dimension of an individual. To be spiritually healthy, one must put the needs of the spirit such as beliefs, morals, values and virtue above the physical needs of the body. This way we allow ourselves to grow spiritually and realize our full potential. Psychologically, to recognize your full potential would allow you to be the best person you can be.
All human needs are important; they are broken-down into three categories: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Satisfy these needs and you will achieve total development of you, the individual.
Always remember:
Spiritual growth is a day-to-day process. Don’t punish yourself for making mistakes. We take steps forward and some steps backwards, we are not perfect so the important thing is that we learn from our mistakes and further spiritual growth will be possible.
